Most of us will permanently lose a tooth or more sooner or later. It can be caused by disease, injury or tooth decay, and if you dislike the thought of getting dentures that pop in and out of your mouth, you can consider the permanent option of getting teeth implants.
Cost of dental implants
One tooth implant will cost from one thousand to five thousand dollars. The wide estimate is due to the many factors. Dentists charge differently all the time, and those who are experienced, much sought-after and/or live in urban cities usually charge higher than less known dentists who live in less-developed areas. The specifics of each tooth implant are considered too, but the longer the procedure lasts, the more the total bill will cost. Some cases may require the use of CT scans to get the correct adjustments for each tooth implant, and the more equipment are used during dental implants, the more you should expect to pay too.
Luckily, if you have medical insurance, companies can cover the cost of teeth implants. Although most insurance companies don’t give dental insurance for cosmetic resin bonding or porcelain veneers cost, getting permanent dental implants is not seen as cosmetic and may be considered as a medical procedure. You will have to talk with your insurance over whether the cost will be covered as well as the possibility of risks involved.
Risk of dental implants
Most dental implant procedures are considered successful in that little pain is involved and that the patients are very happy with the results. Local anesthesia is given before the procedure to numb the pain, and the process of implanting is similar or even less painful to that of getting a tooth removed. The more dental implants you are getting, the more discomfort you might experience after the procedure, and your dentist will prescribe painkillers like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) to control the pain and swelling.
To keep implants in good working order, you need to treat them as carefully as you would real teeth, and always turn up for your dental appointments. However, there are some cases where the dental implants are not received well by the body. People with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, weak bone structure around the facial and mouth area, and who smoke a lot are the ones who are often discouraged from getting teeth implants, or who may experience side effects like gum bleeding or infection (gingivitis) or inability of the implant to integrate with the bone. Sometimes the implants can cause bone loss too and will have to be removed. Any changes and discomfort experienced several days after getting dental implants should be reported to your doctor.
