I wanted to take this first post and give a few reasons I have for setting up this blog. I think that given the state of our current economy, job hunting is going to become more intense. People are going to be looking for and moving to better paying jobs. Also, many jobs continue to be outsourced to places such as India and Mexico. Despite these facts, employment in the nursing field is still needed, pays well, and you can choose to live almost anywhere you would want to work.

The purpose of this blog is to go into specific search strategies, give you information on some of the better agencies and health organizations, what qualifications you need to become a nurse, and other nurse employment related subjects.

I think it has been said maybe one too many times, but it does take a special person to become a nurse. I think this is even more true today in our fast paced and exhausted society. One thing I have learned recently, though, is that nurses are part of a “high touch” field. What this means is that customer care is of the utmost importance. You can outsource all the techie kinds of jobs you want, you can outsource customer call centers, you can even outsource tax returns….it seems nothing can be sent overseas. One thing you cannot outsource, though, is direct care.

We are always going to need nurses. And put even more directly, we are always going to need GOOD nurses. This is something that America will never be able to outsource unless it is though a call center. But if you want direct care, then you will need a nurse. Employment numbers in this area are only going to go up. This is even more true with the mass retirement of baby boomers.

Another main point to bring up here too is that a nurse’s salary is not too shabby. Add to that some awesome sign on bonuses and there are many reasons to not only pursue a degree in nursing, but to also find a job in a place that suits you well.

So, this blog will be dedicated to those high touch individuals who have what it takes to be a nurse. A GOOD nurse.
